Marsy’s Law Partners with Lyft to Provide Free Rides Home on Election Night

Raleigh – Marsy’s Law for North Carolina has partnered with Lyft to provide safe, and free, rides home to election party-goers next Tuesday evening, November 6.

Raleigh – Marsy’s Law for North Carolina has partnered with Lyft to provide safe, and free, rides home to election party-goers next Tuesday evening, November 6.

If passed on Election Day, the crime victims’ rights amendment, also known as Marsy’s Law, will place a new, specific set of distinct rights for crime victims in the North Carolina Constitution. Some of these basic, commonsense rights include:

  • The right to have standing in court
  • The right to present at all proceedings involving the case
  • The right to reasonable and timely notice of proceedings

With that, Marsy’s Law is passionate about helping to put an end to senseless acts of crime, including tragic incidents caused by drunk driving. That’s why the group has teamed up with Lyft to give out free ride codes next Tuesday.

“Marsy’s Law For North Carolina is proud to work with companies like Lyft to ensure that the election night event is safe for attendees,” said Matt Hebb, state director of Marsy’s Law for North Carolina.

The Marsy’s Law election party will be held at the Hilton Raleigh North Hills, 3415 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, North Carolina, 27609. Rides from the party will be available from 7pm-10am (the following morning). Attendees will receive the Lyft code at the party.

About Marsy’s Law

Marsy’s Law is named after Marsalee “Marsy” Nicholas of California who was stalked and killed by her ex-boyfriend in 1983. Only one week after her death, Marsy’s mother and brother, Henry T. Nicholas, walked into a grocery store where they were confronted by the accused murderer. The family, who had just come from a visit to Marsy’s grave, was unaware that the accused had been released on bail.  In an effort to honor his sister, Dr. Nicholas, co-founder of Broadcom Corporation, has made it his mission to give victims and their families constitutional protections and equal rights. He formed Marsy’s Law for All in 2009, providing expertise and resources to victims’ rights organizations nationwide.
